Tetra Pak acquires Bioreactors.net to accelerate the development of "new food" solutions

2025-12-02

(Lausanne, Switzerland, December 2, 2025) Recently, Tetra Pak announced the acquisition of Bioreactors.net. The Latvia-based Bioreactors.net has nearly three decades of experience in designing and manufacturing bioreactor systems.

Founded in 1996, Bioreactors.net focuses on developing cutting-edge biomass fermentation and precision fermentation solutions for the new food sector, with bioreactors that can be used to produce a wide range of proteins and other products. From laboratories to pilot facilities to complete commercial production systems, the company has gained a wealth of experience at any business size. Approximately 15 employees will join Tetra Pak in this acquisition.

This strategic acquisition will help Tetra Pak strengthen its processing processes and expand its bioreactor equipment and design portfolio in the new food sector, enabling it to offer more advanced production systems and develop precision fermentation and biomass fermentation-derived foods and ingredients.

"The addition of Bioreactors.net strengthens our existing upstream and downstream processing portfolio with fermentation capabilities. We will incorporate our full range of bioreactor solutions into the Tetra Pak brand to provide more advanced food production systems. "This acquisition will allow us to accelerate the development of next-generation bioreactors that empower emerging entrepreneurs and established producers to achieve sustainable scale production," said Rafael Barros, Director of New Food at Tetra Pak. ”

Janis Misins-Jubels, Head of Manufacturing at Bioreactors.net, said: "Joining Tetra Pak is an important milestone for us. Our decades of bioreactor expertise will integrate with Tetra Pak's existing product portfolio, global presence and resources to accelerate the delivery of best-in-class fermentation solutions to customers around the world. ”

With a growing global population, meeting the food needs becomes a challenge. Biotechnology is expected to play a crucial role in addressing this challenge, while fermentation and bioprocessing technologies are seen as key to innovation in building more circular and resilient food systems.

The acquisition Bioreactors.net is another step in Tetra Pak's extensive investment in the new food sector. Previously, Tetra Pak opened the Tetra Pak ® New Food Technology Development Center in Karlshaven, Sweden in June this year, and co-built an innovation center with Lund University as early as 2023, the Biotech Heights Research Center in Lund, Sweden.
